ABOUT OUR PROJECT

Welcome to the webpage of the Peninj Research Project (Lake Natron, Tanzania), in progress since 2007 and undertaken by the Univesity of Valladolid (Spain). In this page we briefly introduce the landscapes and people of Lake Natron, the relevance of this harsh region for the studies in African palaeoanthropology, and the main research lines carried out, particularly focused on the study of the archaeological sites located on the Escarpments. Our aim is to gain new insights into the technical, economic, spatial and behavioural innovations linked to the down of the Acheulean.
